Opeth Performs At Seattle's Showbox SoDo On 04/30/2012 « Read Less
Swedish heavy metal outft, Opeth performed at Seattle's Showbox SoDo this past Monday in support of the Heritage Hunter Tour with Mastodon and Ghost. Each date on the tour either Opeth or Mastodon would take turns on who headlined that day's show, Opeth was the lucky band to close out the festivities that night. This was my first time actually experiencing Opeth and to be honest, I always got them and Los Angeles based Metal group Otep mixed up due to their names looking exactly the same.
When Opeth first took the stage, their first two songs didn't sound like they would be a metal band, but that of a jam band trying to channel their inner Grateful Dead. This had me a bit confused at first, as I had heard some of their earlier stuff and had me thinking "Is this the same band?." However, it must have been a warm-up because after those two songs things started to really take off. Once the band started to perform "Slither," we got a taste of what Opeth is all about. It had moments of classic rock meets Heavy metal that I really enjoyed and with the two earlier performances of Mastodon and Ghost this was a breath of fresh air to hear.
All three bands who played that night had awesome performances, but Opeth really blew me away and made me a fan.
